Dear Dr. Irene,
I just wanted to thank you for your verbal abuse website. I was
searching on the web for help after a particularly bad Mother's Day and
Wedding Anniversary with my husband, and I came across this.
I couldn't believe that most of the signs of an abuser relates to my
marriage, especially the one where it says he presents a wonderful face to
the world and is well liked by outsiders. I always wondered how he
could be so nice and giving to everyone, but me. I have been
confused, hurt, humiliated, and feeling like the way he treated me was my
fault. I know it's not, and it felt good to see it all spelled out
right in front of me.
I have blamed myself for 6 years for making stupid and
weak decisions in regards to my relationship with my husband. I had
an out, my parents hired an expensive lawyer 2 years ago, and I took the
kids and moved out one day while he was at work, but I went back 3 months
later. I know I have no self-esteem and I am scared that I won't be
able to make it on my own. My parents and my brother live in another
state, and I really have nowhere else to go.
Thanks to your website I can now see when he is being
manipulating, controlling, and abusive. I can read the signs, and
can go back to the website for advice and help. Thank you again.
Sincerely, LeLa
Dear LeLa, thank YOU! My very best, Dr.
Irene
