BamBam's exchange with John about Salvation Army decorating reminded me of this GREAT new thing I found. It's an internet marketplace for stuff people want to give away, FREE TO A GOOD HOME. Here's the link:
It's organized through Yahoo groups. They can direct you to a Freecycle group in your area. Basically, you join the group. Then when you see something on the list you want, you claim it, then go pick it up.
This seems like a HUGE help in answering one of the most baffling and difficult challenges of leaving, which is, how can I furnish a new place with no money? Collecting a few Freecycle items, like a bed or a table, and renting a storage locker or borrowing a friend's garage, can begin restoring our power and dignity. Knowing the stuff is there, waiting for us to start our new life, provides a little comfort as we plan. It's not irrevocable - if we change our minds we can always Freecycle the stuff ourselves.
